About Threshold Law — The firm and team

01

The firm

Why Threshold Law exists.

Immigration law in Canada is not one-size-fits-all.

The communities we serve — First Nations health authorities, rural and remote employers, foreign investors, and internationally trained professionals — face challenges that generalist firms are not built to understand or solve.

Threshold Law was built from the ground up around these communities and these specific legal pathways. We don't take files we aren't equipped to handle. We don't refer clients away to bigger firms when cases get complex. And we don't treat underserved communities as a secondary market.

Every client we work with is crossing a threshold — into a new community, a new workforce, or a new chapter of business ownership. We make that crossing possible.

Our approach

How we practice.

  1. 01

    Focused, not general

We practice in three areas only. Every file we take is one we have handled before, understand deeply, and can move efficiently.

  2. 02

    Community-centred

First Nations health authorities govern themselves. We take direction from their leadership structures, serve communities directly — not through intermediaries — and never substitute our judgment for community decision-making.

  3. 03

    Honest about outcomes

We tell clients what is realistically achievable — not what they want to hear. If a pathway is unlikely to succeed, we say so before taking a retainer.

  4. 04

    Direct access, always

Clients reach David H. Davis directly. There are no intake queues, no hand-offs, and no ambiguity about who is responsible for your file.

  5. 05

    Plain language, always

Immigration law is complex. Our job is to make it clear — not to impress clients with jargon, but to ensure they understand their situation and options at every stage.

Threshold Law is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on the original lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and on the homeland of the Métis Nation — the heart of Treaty 1 Territory.
